The Powerscourt Gallery Identity

Inspired by a vision to offer accessibility to original, quality artwork, Powerscourt Gallery opened its doors for the first time in June 2009. The gallery aspires to provide emerging and established Irish and international artists a forum to exhibit their art.

ChoiceCuts were selected to design and implement a complete graphic identity system. After initial design workshops with the gallery management, we developed a range of design concepts. The solution chosen is a simple system which allows the artwork to be the focal point while giving the gallery its own identifiable character. The system is flexible and simple enough to be implemented easily and consistently across all media. We took the two rooms and the two aspects of the gallery (it serves as both an exhibition space and a design boutique) as a starting point for the logo, a basic geometric initial ‘P’ based on the plan of the gallery. This simple contrast of a large and smaller block is used as a device across all printed collateral and wherever appropriate (without being too dogmatic.)

ChoiceCuts oversaw and implemented the realisation of the identity across a huge range of collateral including exhibition posters and catalogue, a fully content managed website, mailouts, signage, stationary, postcards and bags. We collaborate on an ongoing basis with the gallery, maintaining a close working relationship.
