The Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) is an annual international music event where up and coming producers, singers, arrangers, DJs and musicians get the opportunity to learn from top industry professionals. For two weeks, the participants get to work in up to twelve studios specially set up for every edition of the RBMA, and equipped with the latest gear for music production and performance. Furthermore, they are tutored by the Academy’s “Studio Team”, all experienced music producers in various fields, and take part in lectures executed by guest speakers which range from composers, sound engineers and technological pioneers, to rappers, to industry executives.
ChoiceCuts has had a close relationship with the acadamy for a number of years – one of our directors (Loughlin McSweeney) was a past-participant in 2004 when the academy was held in Rome and is now the main point of contact in Dublin for past and would-be participants looking for information about the academy.
2009 was the first year in almost 10 years that the academy went on hiatus to regroup and reorganise to come back in February 2010 with an even better line-up of international artists, tastemakers, scene shakers and participants. To promote the academy in Dublin Red Bull held one of their “info sessions” which aimed to emulate a typical lecture environment at the RBMA.

We were asked to assist in the running of the night and to book an artist that would embody exactly what the academy is about while also ensuring the artist would be engaging and entertaining. Daedelus has performed with us at our ChoiceCuts live shows on numerous occasions and has built up quite a following in Ireland so we invited him to speak at the acadamy’s info sesssion in Dublin.
Deadelus’ discussion focused on the changing world of the industry & how the electronic revolution offers unlimited creative possibilities.
Jape (aka Richie Egan) was also in attendance as a guest speaker. One of the most exciting Irish musicians in recent years Jape engaged the audience in a passionate & often hilarious discussion on the technology of modern music.
We also designed the artwork for the event and helped to promote the night using a combination of online marketing campaigns on facebook and targeting influential blog sites throughout Ireland. We had a capacity crowd and feedback was excellent from all who attended an informative and entertaining night of music. Overall Red Bull were delighted with the event and the strong attendance.
