Mochilla asked ChoiceCuts to produce a live showcase in conjunction with the worldwide release of the DVD for Brasilintime. A documentary by director and music photographer Brian Cross. Shot in Sao Paulo, Brazil as part of the Red Bull Music Academy in 2002. This film documents the correlation between Brazilian and American music in the 1960’s/70’s via the rhythm of the drum and the influence this foundation had on Hip Hop culture.
We endeavoured to recreate the atmosphere of the original event by collaborating with Director B+ and prising Comanche(Trio Mocoto), DJ Nuts and Mamao(Azymuth) from Brazil. We then handpicked Madlib & JRocc from Los Angeles and added Afrobeat drumming legend Tony Allen (Fela Kuti) for good measure. With 3 drum kits, 6 turntables, keyboards and effects on stage all artists performed for a 5 hour improvisation.

Brasilintime was regarded as one of the most creative and exciting events we have done so far; fusing many eras, cultures, backgrounds and sensibilities into one venue for a night of amazing music and improvisation. These events are the kind that only ChoiceCuts’ eye for detail and sense of wonder can produce.

Attended by a massive cross-section of Irelands music community our innovative marketing helped to make this the standout event in Ireland for May bank holiday weekend. So much so that a significant number of people travel from all over Europe to attend including Sweden, France, Poland. Brasilintime was a highly lauded production in the music press both nationally and internationally.
